Fellow Members:
This past weekend marked the close of play for the 2009 Calendar Year. For our 14th Hunt Country Classic nearly 200 teams participated in our tournament across several venues here in Fauquier County. The weather cooperated, our volunteers were out in mass and through the leadership of Kim and Doug Farmer we were ready to serve as a gracious host to all those visiting teams. What a tremendous success!
It has been a very good year for soccer in our community. We have seen so many positive things transpire. Player headcount stabilized and is growing. Our operating budget has returned to the black. Volunteer participation is up with new committees operating across multiple fronts to insure the club is well-positioned for the future. We have struck a new partnership with Fauquier County, a new spirit of cooperation between the private and public sectors where we have assumed management of all rectangular athletic fields at the Northern complex. Our entire recreational program is now playing at the Athey complex. There have been so many good things, with so much yet to follow.
As this year closes, I would like to thank our serving Board, they have been tremendous. Our staff, Cathy Howard with her team and on the technical side Bill Lanza and his team of coaches have all demonstrated over and over again, their commitment to FCSC. Our committees, travel, rec, marketing, fund-raising and sponsorship and by now you’ve heard at least some of the names: Adams, Brown, Cooke, Davis, Dawber, Hamilton, Jenkins, Kersey, Pozo-Olano, Rodemsky and Upham tremendously committed volunteers all. Maureen Kersey and Laura Larson have raised record dollars through their own personal efforts in fund-raising so a special thank you we should extend to them as well. To the families of our many volunteers, thank you for your understanding when time that might have been dedicated solely to your family is now being shared with FCSC. Hopefully, I have not forgotten anyone and if I have please accept my apologies.
I appreciate the trust and confidence you have vested in our Board and it has been a personal pleasure serving as your representative. Have a very happy and safe holiday season and a prosperous new year. I look forward to seeing you next year on the field of play!
Honor the Game!
